The status of images in contemporary social psychology

Abstract
The article reflects on the role played by the image in Social Psychology. It establishes that, despite there being a multitude of illustrations in the discipline, it lacks images. And this is so because these are considered the simple image of a discourse or an institutional exercise. A review is made of the current perspectives that are attempting to incorporate the visual into social thinking, paying particular attention to the movements called Visual Culture and Visual Research Methods. It is assumed that, despite the interest that these have, they suffer from a characteristic that cannot be avoided: they still consider that the image should support other applications and, thus, it is not given an appropriate statute in the social analysis. Recovering the proposals of Gilles Deleuze, the article considers that in order to achieve this statute, the image must be analyzed from the visibility that it generates.
